Abstract
Profound or total hearing loss can occur in the setting of chronic suppurative otitis media(CSOM), either coincidentally or secondary to the disease process, which may lead to be candidates for cochlear implantation. The patients in this group need special attention when cochlear implantation is applied, because of postoperative complication. We performed cochlear implantation in a patient with wet radical cavities. Subtotal petrosectomy, obliteration of the eustachian tube and the cavity, blind sac closure of the external auditory canal are performed in the first stage. After three months, there was no sign of infection, so cochlear implantation was successfully performed. We report this case with a review of the literature.
